Prince death forces Chaka Khan into rehab for Prescription drugs addiction.

Chaka Khan has checked herself into rehab for drug addiction.Chaka Khan and her sister entered a drug rehabilitation program to battle their addictions to prescription drugs, and Khan says the death of her good friend Prince helped hasten her decision to get help.

Maybe a good thing will come out of the death of Prince by helping others face their prescription drugs addiction.
In a statement released to The Associated Press Sunday, the 63-year-old Grammy-winning singer said she has been battling an addiction to the same medication that led to Prince's death. Prince was found dead at his Minnesota home April 21. An autopsy found he died of
an overdose of fentanyl, a powerful opioid painkiller.
"Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer," she said. "However, it's vital that I put my health and well-being first. I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy."

The 63-year-old songstress was due to be performing at the California State Fair but canceled two days before.
Fair officials received a message from the singing icon's rep on Saturday saying that the star was entering an inpatient and aftercare program for addiction to prescription pain medication.

'[Khan has] voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way' her reps told Cal Expo officials.
State Fair spokeswoman Adrienne Alkhas said in a statement: 'We are extremely disappointed Chaka Khan canceled because we knew how much the community was looking forward to it, yet at the same time we wish her the best in her health and full recovery,'
Khan was scheduled to perform on Monday night but now Jody Watley featuring Shalamar Reloaded will perform in her place.
Chaka Khan had a previous history of taking hard drugs. She used heroin and cocaine for 10 years by her own admission, but she claimed she never injected ,only snorted. This she said, was as a result of an encounter with her hero Etta James who warned her about injecting drugs.I don't know how this makes anything better,i guess its the delusion of a drug user..Speaking on the subject,Chaka said-
"When I first went to sign at Warner Bros. I met Etta James," Chaka Khan told Britain'sOK! magazine. "She was standing outside in the hall waiting for me. I was a big fan, so I was really pleased to see her."
"She said to me, 'Whatever you do, if you wanna be in this business…' showing me the tracks on her arm,… 'do not do this.' I said, 'Oh my God! Don't worry, I won't.' And I didn't. I snorted heroin for a good 10 years and I did cocaine, but I never injected."

She has also cancelled her other performances in July.
The Sacramento Bee reports that fans who purchased reserved seating, approximately 400 people, will be getting an automatic refund by the end of the week.
The 10-time Grammy winner has been open about her addiction to drugs in the past.
She spoke out about her personal experience in 2013 after commending Lindsay Lohan for seeking treatment at Cliffside Malibu Rehab Center, where she had reportedly also completed a stint.

'To choose to do what is necessary to better one's self is commendable. I applaud Lindsay Lohan for doing the work. She is a lovely young lady and I pray for her well-being.
'The battle of addiction is a serious and long process, which is why I chose to address my use of prescription medications - which came about as a result of the knee surgery I had a few years ago.
'When and if necessary, I will seek alternative methods and traditional treatment to stay ahead of any potential problem. So many are not here today, and have lost this battle with addiction. Because these medications are legal, their abuse is often unknown-until it's too late. If not handled they are a silent killer.'

  1. Thank heavens some good came out of such terrible loss. Prince's tragic death may save his friends' lives. I hope others suffering from addiction may also be inspired to seek treatment.
